Newark College Institute

Mentoring & Career Coaching

NCI_Freshman_Institute-182.jpg

The Newark College Institute provides graduate student mentors to all of its freshmen and graduating seniors. The role of the mentor is to help the participant navigate their first year in college and to provide guidance to the senior as they prepare for graduation and the transition into the workforce.

Mentors dedicate a minimum of ten hours a week to speak to their mentees in person, via email, phone, text, or video conference.

Although participants are free to talk to their mentors about anything, mentors focus their conversations on specific objectives:

  • Short-term academic goals and long-term career goals (Fall Semester)

  • Summer internship preparation (Spring Semester)

Mentors assigned to seniors are called Career Coaches, as their work is specifically tailored to support the Senior Institute and prepare the participants for full-time employment upon graduation.
